In this Watershed Sleuth Challenge, you will learn more about your watershed—what it is, why it’s important, and what you can do to help protect it, as you earn badges at each level of this three-part course. In the first lesson, you will learn about the watershed basics: where the water comes from, where it goes, and what it does along the way. Completing this lesson on the facts of watersheds and water quality earns you the blue Watershed Sleuth badge.
Once you’ve gathered all of the facts, the next step is to identify the threats to water quality that may be coming from right under your nose—and in your own home! Lesson two delves into things we may be doing at home that threaten water quality, as well as steps to take to reduce these threats and help protect this important resource. Completing this lesson earns you the green Watershed Guardian badge, indicating that you’re equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to protect water quality at home.
After you’ve done all you can at home, it’s time to branch out: lesson three directs you to take a look at the state of your community and determine if there are steps you and your neighbors can take to better protect water quality in your area. Completing this third and final lesson earns you the Watershed Hero badge, as you set out to lead your community in safeguarding water quality in your watershed.
