Oysters & Filtration Infographic
Oysters are filter feeders, consuming algae from the water column. They pull surrounding water into their shells, where they filter out algae for food and expel the remaining water. In doing so, they help to remove harmful nutrient pollution from the water around them.
A single oyster is able to filter up to 50 gallons of water per day.
This infographic illustrates how oysters are able to filter polluted water.
