What is Great.com?

Great.com is a charitable initiative started by Swedish entrepreneur, Erik Bergman. Every week, Great.com talks to seven organizations or individuals about the impactful work they're doing. Its mission is not only to introduce people to some of the world's greatest organizations but also to tell the stories of the people behind them.

Emil Ekvardt from Great.com interviewed Sara Espinoza as part of their 'Great.com Talks With...' podcast series. The subject of the podcast was, "How To Improve Your Health and Better Care for the Environment." This series is an antidote to negative news stories that aims to shed light on organizations and experts whose work is making a positive impact on the world. Over one hundred non-profit and governmental organizations have been featured, including Points of Light, National Wildlife Federation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Webinar: How To Improve Your Health and Better Care for the Environment

There is no one right way to enjoy nature. Whether it's long hikes in the mountains or reading a book in the park, people honour the outdoors in their own unique ways. Since the enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions, there has been a 100-150% increase in the usage of outdoors spaces in the US. Although this has been positive in terms of health and connection, this increase has also led to much quicker depreciation in times where the staff teams and maintenance are at a low. Sara Espinoza described the importance of raising awareness for the proper care of green spaces and encouraging small life changes for a large collective environmental impact.

We Don't Need To Make Large, Expensive Gestures To Play an Active Part

In the US, the environmental movement has predominantly been led by the white and affluent in society. NEEF's mission is to ensure that everyone sees they have a voice and a part to play in the protection of our planet; to show how we can all make significant changes in our lives in order to address pressing environmental issues such as climate change. Espinoza explains how NEEF work with companies and educators to encourage curiosity towards environmental issues, everyday activism, and to drive interest into STEM subjects and ‘greening' career pathways.
