Louisa Koch
Luisa Koch has served as NOAA’s director of education from October 2005 to the present. NOAA’s education programs are developing the next generation of professionals educated in the NOAA sciences and educating the public about the role of the ocean, coast and atmosphere in the global environment. Ms. Koch served as NOAA’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for Research from 1998 through 2005. Before joining NOAA, Ms. Koch served at the Office of Management and Budget as the Commerce Branch Chief. She was a Presidential Management Intern at the Department of Defense and an economist at the Joint Economic Committee, US Congress. Ms. Koch earned a master’s in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1987), and a bachelor’s in physics from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont (1982). She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband Robert and two daughters.
