Climate Change and Mental Health: Educating for Resilience

In August 2023, NEEF hosted a Health & Nature webinar with the USDA Forest Service, with special guest speakers including Deputy U.S. Surgeon General, Rear Admiral (RADM) Denise Hinton. This webinar examined the mental health impacts of climate change and the role of healthcare professionals, educators, and community leaders in addressing climate emotions with youth populations. Conversations explored the nuance of climate change-related trauma experienced by children and adolescents and the negative mental health effects. Lastly, strategies will be shared on how to build mental resilience through education and structured activities.

Climate Justice and Health: Educating for Change

In June 2023, NEEF and the USDA Forest Service hosted an insightful webinar delving into the complex dynamics of climate justice, systemic racism, and their implications for health. Our guests, Dr. Lisa Patel, Executive Director of the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, Sonja Lin, Urban Connections Program Manager for the Eastern Region of the USDA Forest Service, and Lucy Molina, Environmental Justice Director, shared practical strategies to apply this knowledge in daily practice, empowering attendees to take action, build relationships, and make meaningful contributions toward addressing these critical challenges within their communities.
